44 airports at risk: Abolition of the second fee category threatens infrastructure
28. May 2025
The Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) plans to abolish the second fee category under Section 27d of the German Air Traffic Act (LuftVG) at the end of 2025. For 44 airports, including Braunschweig/Wolfsburg, Magdeburg, and Mannheim, this poses considerable financial challenges: in future, they would have to bear all air traffic control costs themselves. The German Business Aviation Association (GBAA) warns of ruinous distortions of competition, threats to decentralized airport infrastructure, and considerable economic damage.
